Kartes Li
The name Kartes means of and relating to the French philosopher and discoverer René Descartes —from his Latinized name Cartesius. As evident from the name, Kartes is an ambitious student. He loves to challenge himself and always try something new. Indeed, Kartes demonstrated his love for the unconventional by immersing in the diverse worlds of scuba diving and American football. These seemingly different hobbies molded him, threading the rich tapestry of his experience that colored his high school life. Each underwater dive was a chance to explore the mystic marine world, while each game of American football tested his strength and grit. The combination of these passions cultivated an environment of constant challenge and growth for Kartes, shaping his unique path in life.
My Story
Years ago, as I submerged myself in the waters surrounding Koh Lipe, Thailand, I was instantly captivated by the mesmerizing underwater landscape, where a diverse array of vibrant and colorful coral danced gracefully with the ocean's currents, painting a vivid tapestry across the vast aquatic expanse. However, upon revisiting Koh Lipe recently, I was disheartened to see that the once-dazzling corals now appeared gray and lifeless, standing as brittle and fragmented relics of their former splendor. The stark contrast between the past and present underwater landscapes was a haunting reminder of the fragility of our natural world. Eventually, this experience further galvanized my resolve to become an environmentalist who actively participates in the protection and restoration of marine ecosystems.
